WSOP Main Event Final Table Thursday

Tomorrow’s the final table of the main event of this year’s World Series of Poker. I’d hoped to have a small stake in one of the final table players this year, but that’s not how the cards were dealt. Still, while my horse was still in the running, I was hitting F5 and “Reload all tabs” on Pauly’s blog like one of those strung-out characters he’s always running around with. Except without anything contagious.

Go on over to the Tao of Poker to follow the final table action and get a running commentary on poker, the WSOP, and everything tangential.

Super Ouch.

Had a disastrous session at the middle limits that ate through over a third of the bankroll. A cursory glance at Poker Tracker shows me overplaying or overcalling with second-best hands in far too many hands. Poker Tracker also tells me I got runner-runner’d, 3-outered, and 5-outered enough times to account for the entire loss. The games were juiced up with a few maniacs and I took them head on for a crazy swinging time. At about 3AM I called it quits and started to wonder just what the hell I was playing for. I’ve decided to cash out a chunk of the roll so that I have something to point to and say, “There, that’s what I got spending my free time playing poker,” and banish myself to low-limit purgatory. Because at the end of it all, I’m playing for competitive mental fun, and fun doesn’t usually involve contemplating four figure losses.

Go Absinthe Go!

Fellow LA Blogger Absinthe has been putting in the long hours and making the tough decisions at the WSOP Main Event this week. Now, at the tail end of Day 3, he’s outlasted 94% of the field, and busted professional player Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, ensuring a small profit for all us backers…. Go on over and congratulate him on his awesome performance and give him some luck so that I can get a nice boost to the bankroll.

Spyware and Malware Protection

One of the first things I did with the new notebook for my sister was to run Windows Update and Office Update and install a lot of security software (anti-spyware, anti-malware, and anti-virus).

Here’s the list of free/donationware must-haves:

Firefox – Better browser, safer to use. Extensions rock.

SpywareBlaster – Prevents Spyware from being installed.

AdAware SE – Spyware removal tool.

Spybot Search and Destroy – Spyware prevention and removal tool.

AVG Anti-Virus – Free anti-virus tool. Use can use Symantec if you have the money and system resources.

Crap Cleaner – One-click deletion of your Recycle Bin, temp directories, browser cache, etc.

As always, it’s better not to get spyware on your machine, but if you do, these guys can help:
